ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Cornell & Diehl Pipe Tobacco Company —  among the world’s leading manufacturers of boutique, hand-blended pipe tobacco — is searching for a passionate, knowledgeable, and creative Blending Assistant to join our growing Production staff. In this role, the perfect candidate will quickly develop a thorough understanding of all the aspects of production and be able to suggest ways to expedite secondary processes, paying careful attention to the myriad steps involved in producing fine pipe tobacco enjoyed by customers all across the globe.

Once gaining a thorough understanding of how our processes work, the perfect candidate will also find ample room to grow and expand their role as they learn new skills and gain further experience in our unique and niche manufacturing environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Blending Assistant at Cornell & Diehl, you will work directly with our production team behind the scenes to maximize the output potential of the factory. Among other tasks, your day-to-day responsibilities will include stripping and sorting raw tobacco, weighing out and organizing raw components, cleaning and sanitizing blending tables between batches, transporting finished tobacco blends to the packaging area, cleaning drying mats, carefully measuring out sauces and flavorings, stoving tobacco in the proofing oven.

In many ways, this role is analogous to Commis Chef or Kitchen Porter, working to expedite and remove friction from our production processes, while learning the ins and outs of boutique pipe tobacco blending.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Superlative attention to detail
  • Excellent active listening skills
  • Strong capacity for problem solving and critical thinking
  • Exceptional communication, both verbally and in writing

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be curious, open-minded, and a life-long learner
  • Be punctual, reliable, and flexible
  • Work autonomously with little direction
  • Think critically and make decisions with intellectual rigor
  • Able to lift 30 lbs
  • Able to be active and stand all day
  • Have a valid Driver’s License
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Availability to work Monday - Friday 8am to 4:30pm
